Association of Integrated Marine Engineering Students (AIMES)

Association of Integrated Marine Engineering Students (AIMES) is a platform that conducts and coordinates both technical and non-technical activities for the professional, academic, social and personal grooming of the undergraduate marine students.

Teacher’s day celebration  

Teachers’ day was celebrated on 05th September 2018. Students have shown their gratitude to their teachers by taking the classes of a particular teacher by a student on this day, and also presented mementos to the teacher.


Industrial Visit

An industrial visit was organized for the students of 5th semester to Campco Chocolate Factory, Puttur, on 6th September 2018. Students visited various departments & manufacturing units and obtained information about the various processes


Inauguration of AIMES activities & Technical Talk – History of shipping

The inaugural function of activities of Association of Integrated Marine Engineering Students (AIMES) for the year 2018-19 was held on 28th September 2018. Mr. Thomas K Mathai, Chief Engineer, Cochin Shipyard. Principal Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D. presided over the function. Also the 5th edition of the departmental magazine “The ATLANTIS” was released by the chief guest. The inaugural program was followed by a technical talk on History of shipping by the chief guest titled “Through the Ages Technology Helps Seaman Find His Way”.

Swachh campus abhiyaan

In order to create awareness on “Swachh Bharath Abhiyaan”, students of the department of Marine Engineering have participated in Swachh campus abhiyaan on 3rd October 2018. All the students of department have participated actively towards the success of this program.


Industrial visit

An industrial visit was organized for the students of 3rd semester to Govt. Tool Room & Training Centre (GTTC), Mangaluru and Lamina Suspension Products Ltd, Mangaluru on 09/10/2018. A Total of 29 students were accompanied by Prof. Chandra Jogi & Prof. Sunil Prakash Rodrigues.


Technical Talk – Fire safety on board

A Technical Talk was organized on Fire safety on board by Mr. Tejpal Bangera, Alpha Technical Training & Development Centre, Mangaluru on 2nd February 2019. The talk was focused on the various fire fighting methods and types of extinguishers used on board ships.


Technical Talk-Career prospects in marine engineering

AIMES- the student association of Department of Marine Engineering has organised a technical talk on “Career Prospects in Marine Engineering” on 13th February 2019 for the final & pre-final year students. Mr. M Subramanian, Advisor RL institute of Nautical Science, Madurai was the chief guest. Mr. V Prabhakaran, placement coordinator of RLINS and Mr. Chandran M, PRO of RLINS were the guests of honour. Mr. Subramanian who has a vast experience in marine field with 25 years of experience in which 12 years as chief engineer, guided the Marine students about job prospects at sea and shore after graduation. He also shed light on the statutory requirements to sail as an engineer. He deliberated on the need of being disciplined in marine world


Blood Donation camp

AIMES- The student association of Department of Marine Engineering along with youth Youth Redcross-SIT & IRCS Mangaluru has organized a blood donation camp in Srinivas Institute of Technolgy, Mangaluru in association with SIMSRC, Mukka on 27th February 2019. A total of 126 students and staff members participated in the blood donation camp and made the event a success.

Awareness program: Scientific temper

AIMES- The student association of Department of Marine Engineering has organized an awareness program on the need for “Scientific Temper” by Prof. Narendra Nayak, Mangaluru on 6th March 2019.

Technical Talk-Marine Crew Resource Management

The Association of Integrated Marine Engineering Students (AIMES) has organized a technical talk on “Marine Crew Resource Management” by Mr. Chethan Patwal, 3rd Engineer in Nortan shipping Mangament for marine students on 21st March 2019 at Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru. He spoke about the major accidents occurred because of human physical and mental stress, and conveyed about the crew management behavior on board. He exemplified the kind of qualities that the officer should have when interacting with the crew on board. He stressed on the importance of taking up the job on board with high sense of responsibility.


National Maritime Day

AIMES- the student association of Department of Marine Engineering has celebrated national Maritime day on 5th April 2019 in Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, Mangaluru. Dr. Shivakumar G.S, vice principal and HOD of Computer Science Engineering, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, Mangalore was the chief guest for the ceremony. Dr. Shivakumar G.S in his address mentioned about the importance of Maritime day for a mariner to showcase their identity to the world.  The Maritime day was celebrated with Flag hoisting and organising games for the students
