World Intellectual Property Day Celebration

World Intellectual Property Day Celebration at Srinivas Institute of Technology On the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day, the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), in association with the IPR Cell of Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, organized a vibrant awareness session on 26th April 2025 at the Seminar Hall. The resource person for the event, Prof. Vivek Vijay Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Marine Engineering, delivered an engaging session titled "IPR for Dummies (With the help of 3 songs and a movie)". Through an innovative approach, Prof. Vivek explained the core concepts of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) using songs and videos, illustrating how similar ideas can be expressed through different forms and yet be distinct - thereby underlining the importance of originality and creative expression in protecting intellectual works. Prof. Vivek also discussed how the landscape of Intellectual Property has evolved with the advent of AI tools, citing examples such as Ghibli Studios to demonstrate how traditional ideas and artistic expressions are being reinterpreted and challenged in the modern era. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from first-year students of the Departments of Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Marine Engineering. The session was highly interactive, encouraging students to view their academic and technical projects through the lens of innovation and patenting. Prof. Rakesh Mallya also addressed the gathering, motivating the students to think beyond their curriculum and work towards patenting their creative projects and ideas. As a token of appreciation for his insightful and thought-provoking session, a memento was presented to Prof. Vivek Vijay Kumar by the organizing committee. The event was coordinated under the able leadership of Prof. Gourish Hegde (Event Coordinator), Prof. Jayaram Thumbe (Convenor, IPR Cell), Dr. Praveen Shenoy (Convenor, Institution's Innovation Council), and Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D (Principal, Srinivas Institute of Technology), whose collective efforts ensured the success of the program. The program successfully ignited a fresh spirit of innovation, intellectual curiosity, and contemporary awareness among the budding engineers, marking a memorable celebration of World Intellectual Property Day.
