Report on Patents and IPR Search Session

IPR Cell, Srinivas Institute of Technology, organised a session on Patents and IPR Search on December 2, 2023 for the 7th Semester Marine and Mechanical Engineering Students at Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, Mangalore.The session was conducted by Prof. Vivek V. Kumar, a member of the IPR Cell, of Srinivas Institute of Technology and a faculty in the department of Marine Engineering. The primary objective of this session was to educate students about the fundamentals of patents and the process of intellectual property rights search. It aimed to enhance the students' understanding of the significance of patents in the engineering field and to equip them with the skills required for effective IPR research. Session Content Introduction to Intellectual Property Rights Importance of Patents in Engineering Steps in Conducting a Patent Search Understanding Patent Documentation Practical Tips for Effective IPR Search The session witnessed active participation from the students, who showed keen interest in understanding the nuances of patent searches and their relevance in engineering. Students expressed their appreciation for the knowledge imparted, noting its relevance in their future academic and professional endeavours. This session is expected to spark further interest among students in the field of IPR and patents. The IPR Cell plans to conduct more such sessions to deepen students' understanding and practical skills in intellectual property rights management.
