Industry Visit Report - New Mangalore Port Authority

On December 11th, 2024, the 7th Semester Marine Engineering student’s Association AIMES of Srinivas Institute of Technology, in collaboration with the Industry-Institute Interaction Cell, visited the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA). The visit was led by Prof. Lokesh V, Head of the Department, and Prof. Sathisha KG, Assistant Professor of the department. The educational visit offered students a practical understanding of contemporary shipbuilding practices, bridging the gap between classroom theories and real-world applications. Officials at NMPA provided a detailed overview of critical ship construction elements. Students observed key features, including draft markings, mooring notches, propeller anode coverings, and cabin insulation, gaining valuable insights into their design and functionality. The visit highlighted the importance of engineering precision, environmental responsibility, and safety in shipbuilding, while showcasing the intricate processes and technologies involved. Students gained a practical understanding of marine engineering concepts and appreciated the synergy of design, craftsmanship, and technology, enhancing their academic growth and readiness for the maritime industry's challenges.
