Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, Mangaluru Institute’s Innovation Cell National Education Day Date: 11/11/2024 On November 11, 2024, Srinivas Institute of Technology, in partnership with its Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) Cell, hosted a special celebration for National Education Day, dedicated to the student community at its Mangaluru campus. This annual observance marked the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Indias first Minister of Education, and served as a reminder of his foundational contributions to the nation’s education system, promoting universal access to quality education. The event was graced by Dr. Suryanarayana K., Head of the Department of Physics, who served as the Chief Guest and delivered a compelling address centered on the National Education Policy (NEP) and the broader significance of National Education Day. Dr. Suryanarayana emphasized the NEPs transformative vision for India’s education sector, which aims to meet the demands of the 21st century through its focus on inclusivity, adaptability, and holistic development. He outlined the NEPs emphasis on foundational literacy and numeracy, multidisciplinary learning, and the cultivation of essential life skills—preparing students to confront global challenges with confidence and capability. Dr. Suryanarayana also highlighted the NEP’s promotion of creative thinking, innovation, and problem-solving as key competencies that would not only enhance students personal growth but also contribute to the nation’s socio-economic progress. In a heartfelt tribute to National Education Day, Dr. Suryanarayana reflected on the legacy of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who envisioned an India where education was accessible to all and underscored the importance of scientific, technical, and cultural learning in building a progressive society. Azad’s dedication to education led to the establishment of premier institutions and policies that laid the foundation of India’s education system today. Dr. Suryanarayana encouraged students to honor this day by committing to lifelong learning, pursuing academic excellence, and actively engaging in the betterment of society through their knowledge and skills. The event was presided over by Dr. Shankar K. S., Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who further illuminated the significance of National Education Day in his presidential address. Dr. Shankar shared insights on Maulana Azad’s pioneering role in shaping India’s educational landscape, noting that Azad’s visionary leadership during his tenure as Minister of Education led to the establishment of key educational institutions and policies that continue to impact millions of students across India. Dr. Shankar emphasized Azad’s commitment to universal, free, and compulsory education, particularly for primary school-aged children, as a powerful means of uplifting society and creating equal opportunities for all. He encouraged students to draw inspiration from Azads contributions and to recognize the transformative power of education in personal and national growth. The program was organized with the full support of Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D, Principal of Srinivas Institute of Technology, whose backing underscored the institution’s commitment to fostering an environment that values educational excellence and holistic student development. Additionally, Dr. Praveen Shenoy, IIC Coordinator, SIT, played a significant role in facilitating the event, ensuring it aligned with the IIC’s mission to promote innovative thinking and entrepreneurship among students.
