DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING “VISIT TO HERITAGE PLACE AND CRAFTS CORNER”

The students of 3rdsemester Department of Information science and engineering visited Guthumane and Artisan village, Pilikula, Vamanjoor on 13-01-2024.The objectives of the visit were knowing the history and culture of the city. This activity is in-lined with 3rd semester VTU activity point programme. The heritage setup which was in Pilikula has the huge number of collections pertaining to Guttumane customs like Daivada mane, traditional kitchen room and ancient instruments which extensively used in olden days also utensils were kept to preserve cereals.Students observed traditional folk arts, costumes and wooden chairs. Students observed live pottery making, preparation of oil from seeds with the help of bullocks, preparation of baskets, chairs using bamboo plant,weaving of handloom fabrics, preparation of beaten rice with a unique hand operated pounding mechanism and carpentry work by a skilled group of carpenters.This visit was supported by our beloved Principal Dr.Srinivasa Mayya D.The visit was carried out under the guidance of Prof.SudarshanK, Head of the Department, IS&E and Mrs. Shreekshitha, Assistant professor, Department of ISE.
