Architectural Study Tour-2024

The current 6’th semester B. Arch students of Srinivas School of Architecture (SSA) went on a seven-day Architecture study tour from fourth to eleventh March 2024. There were 30 students accompanied by their faculty namely; Ar. Leslie J. Dias and Ar. Colin A. Pinto.As part of their case study to understand and appreciate good campus design, the students visited Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS) Goa campus, Ahmedabad University Student center (Ahmedabad), Entrepreneurship development institute (Gandhinagar) and CEPT university (Ahmedabad)The group also visited places of Architectural interest in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The notable historic buildings visited in Ahmedabad were Adlaj Step well, Sarkhej Roza, Jami Masjid and the Siddi Sayid Mosque. The modern contemporary buildings visited were Gandhi Smarak in the Sabarmati Ashram, Mill owners building by the famous French architect Le Corbusier, Sabarmati River front and the GIFT city in Gandhinagar. For architectural practice exposure, the students visited Sangath Vaastu shipla studio the office of noted Architect; the late Padmashree B. V. Doshi Sir. There was an office visit organized to HCP Design Planning and Management Pvt. Ltd. This is the firm headed by award winning Architect, Dr. Bimal Patel. The notable project of the firm is the design of the new Indian parliament building in New Delhi. To experience Gujrati culture and food the class visited the famous Law Garden market and food street known locally as Khao galli. A visit to Manak chowk in the heart of old Ahmedabad gave the students a glimpse to Gujrati Street food dining culture.The class also spent three days in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The notable landmarks visited were Kumbhalgarh fort, Jagdeesh temple, City palace, Ghanghor ghat and Sajjangarh palace. To experience Rajasthani folk art, dance and music the group attended a cultural performance in Bagore ki Haveli.The trip was designed to give the students an all-round experience in Architecture, history and culture in North west India. But the most important takeaway would be happy memories, friendship and appreciation for aesthetics and diversity of our Country.
