⚓ 'Innovation in Marine Engineering through AI' - Marine Engineering Department, SIT

Mangaluru, February 22, 2025: The Department of Marine Engineering at Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru, in association with IIC and AIMES, organized a workshop on 'Innovation in Marine Engineering through AI'. The resource person for the event was Mr. Madhusudhan S, Assistant Professor, Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML). The workshop aimed to explore the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in marine engineering, emphasizing advancements in automation, predictive maintenance, and operational efficiency. The speaker highlighted the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the marine industry, focusing on predictive analysis and optimization. He discussed AI-driven voyage planning, which enables ships to select the most efficient routes based on weather patterns, sea conditions, and historical data. Additionally, he explained how AI optimizes fuel consumption by analyzing real-time engine performance and navigation data, thereby reducing operational costs. Furthermore, the speaker addressed AI’s role in emission reduction, highlighting how predictive models help lower carbon footprints by optimizing speed, fuel usage, and maintenance schedules. The event was coordinated by Prof. Chandra Jogi (Event Coordinator IIC), Prof. Sunil Prakash R (AIMES Coordinator), and Dr. Praveen Shenoy (IIC Coordinator), with the support of Dr. Lokesh V, Head of Marine Engineering, and Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D, Principal. Through this session, participants gained valuable insights into the integration of AI technologies in the marine industry, fostering innovation and sustainable solutions for future developments.
