Department of Marine Engineering celebrates Engineers Day

Association of Integrated Marine Engineering Students (AIMES), Department of Marine Engineering, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru celebrated Engineers day on September 16, 2018.

15th of September is observed as Engineers day to celebrate the birthday of Sir. M. Visvesvaraya who had contributed to the field of engineering in India and is held with high regard as a pre-eminent engineer of India.

The chief guests for the function were two senior marine engineers, Mr. Sandeep Bhat, Chief Engineer Scorpio Marine Management India Pvt. Ltd, and Mr. Satyasaktish Mohanty, Second Engineer, Maersk Tankers India Pvt Ltd.

The formal function was followed by a talk on “Working On Board A Merchant Vessel- A Senior Engineers Perspective”. The talk was a panel discussion which was headed by Prof. Vivek Vijay Kumar. He lead the discussion with the guests on the roles and responsibilities of engineers on board merchant vessels. Mr. Sandeep Bhat stressed on the need of good work ethics on board ships. Mr. Satyasaktish Mohanty explained the students on the need for a safe work culture on ships. He also asked the students to be thorough in their engineering fundamentals before coming to work on ships. The panel also discussed the new regulations that are affecting the current shipping scenario. Both the chief guests were honored with Mementoes for their contribution to the Marine Engineering profession.

The master of Ceremony was Ms. Arsala Jamsheed. The Introduction of the chief guests was done by Ms. Mrudula T H and Mr. Girish Kalliguddi. The vote of thanks was given by Mr. Ganesh M Kallimani. The program was coordinated by AIMES faculty advisor Prof. Nithin Joshuva.
