Practical Training Skills on Self-Defence for Women

The Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, Srinivas Institute of Technology (SIT), Valachil, Mangalore, organized a workshop on “Practical Training Skills on Self-Defence for Women” on 16th September 2026 at the SIT campus, Valachil. The programme was organized with the support of the Department of Information Science and Computer Design Engineering (ISE & CSD) in collaboration with the SIT Women Cell and NSS Unit.

The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Sampath Kumar, Black Belt, 3rd Dan, an International Kickboxing and Karate Referee and Trainer at the Institute of Karate and Martial Arts. He specialized in various martial arts disciplines, including Karate, Kickboxing, Wushu, and Boxing. He has also guided and trained several players who have participated at national and international levels.

A total of 50 girl students from MBA, AI&DS, ISE and CSD departments actively participated in the workshop. The session was conducted for approximately one hour and was designed to be highly practical and interactive. Mr. Sampath Kumar began the programme with a 15-minute warm-up and basic physical preparation session, which helped the students understand the importance of body movement, balance, alertness, and coordination before practicing the self-defence techniques.

The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D., Principal, SIT, and Prof. Nagaraja Hebbar N., Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science. The programme also received valuable guidance and support from Dr. Vinayak Rao, Staff Advisor; Prof. Sudarshan K., HOD, ISE & CSD; Dr. Veena S. Rai, Head, Women Cell; and Prof. Rakesh Mallya P., Head, NSS.
