Technical Exposure Visit The Shift Toward Sustainable Infrastructure
The First-Year Engineering students (Chemistry Cycle) of Srinivas Institute of Technology
participated in an insightful Technical Exposure Visit to Dakshina Kannada Nirmithi Kendra,
Surathkal, under the theme "The Shift Toward Sustainable Infrastructure." The visit aimed to
bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical application, introducing students to cost-
effective and energy-efficient construction methods such as stabilised mud blocks, filler slab
roofing, and ferrocement components. Through live demonstrations, students observed how core
principles—including heat insulation, load distribution, and material properties—are vital in
developing sustainable housing and rainwater harvesting systems.
The program effectively emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary knowledge in tackling
environmental issues and reducing the carbon footprint of modern construction. This initiative was
supported by the visionary leadership of our esteemed Principal, Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D. and
implemented by the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and Entrepreneurship Development
Programme (EDP) cell under the guidance of Dr. Praveen Shenoy and Dr. Soorya Krishna K.,
respectively. Organized under the direction of Dr. Anant Kumar Kulkarni, Student Welfare
Officer and HOD of Mathematics, along with the Basic Sciences faculty, the visit significantly
encouraged students to adopt responsible engineering practices in their future careers.
