The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru, organized an insightful expert interaction session titled “Idea to Prototype: Rapid Prototyping” on 08 August 2026 at 11:00 AM at M 101.

The programme was organized by the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) in association with the All Student Mechanical Association (ASMA), with the objective of encouraging innovation, creativity, and prototype development among Mechanical Engineering students.

The session was led by Mr. Shashank S, Assistant Training Officer, who served as the resource person. He provided students with valuable insights into the journey from conceptualizing an engineering idea to developing a functional prototype. The session highlighted the significance of rapid prototyping in transforming innovative ideas into tangible solutions and emphasized its relevance in modern engineering and product development.

Mr. Shashank discussed the importance of identifying real-world problems, developing innovative solutions, selecting appropriate prototyping techniques, and adopting an iterative approach to product development. The interaction also helped students understand how rapid prototyping can support experimentation, design validation, modification, and improvement before moving towards final product development.

The programme provided an interactive platform for students to gain practical knowledge and enhance their understanding of innovation, product development, prototype creation, and entrepreneurial thinking. The session encouraged students to explore their own ideas and work towards developing innovative solutions to contemporary engineering challenges.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Raghavendra M J, IIC-IA, and Prof. Sandesh K S, ASMA Staff Coordinator, under the guidance of and Dr. Shankar K S, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The programme was conducted with the support and encouragement of Dr. Praveen Shenoy, IIC Coordinator, and Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D, Principal, Srinivas Institute of Technology.
