Protecting IPR and IP Management for Start-Ups.
On May 29, 2026, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) of Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, Mangaluru, in association with STEADY and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized an informative session on the topic “Protecting IPR and IP Management for Start-Ups.”
The session was conducted with the objective of creating awareness among students regarding Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and the importance of Intellectual Property (IP) management in the growth and sustainability of start-up ventures. The resource person for the session was Prof. Gourish S Hegde, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, who shared valuable insights on the significance of protecting innovations and managing intellectual assets effectively.
During the session, Prof. Gourish S Hegde explained various forms of Intellectual Property such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, and trade secrets. He highlighted the importance of securing innovative ideas and inventions through appropriate legal frameworks and discussed the role of intellectual property in fostering innovation, competitiveness, and entrepreneurship. The session also covered the basic procedures involved in patent filing, IP commercialization, licensing, and technology transfer for start-up enterprises.
The participants gained a comprehensive understanding of how intellectual property protection can help innovators and entrepreneurs safeguard their creations, attract investments, and build sustainable businesses. The session concluded with an interactive discussion where students actively engaged with the resource person and clarified their queries related to patent filing, intellectual property protection, and start-up management.
