Srinivas Institute of Technology Team Wins First Prize at Nitte Young Entrepreneurs Summit with Eco-Friendly Oil Cleaner Boat

Mangalore, December 14, 2025 – A student team from Srinivas Institute of Technology, Vallachil has been awarded the First Prize at the Nitte Young Entrepreneurs Summit for their innovative eco-friendly solution to water pollution.

The winning team comprising Madhu, Ramya, Dhanush, and Vikesh developed the "Oil Cleaner Boat," a manually operated water surface cleaning system designed to remove floating oil spills and surface pollutants from lakes, rivers, and ponds. The innovative solution operates without fuel or electricity for propulsion, significantly reducing secondary pollution and operating costs. The boat features a mechanical oil collection mechanism that efficiently skims oil from the water surface and stores it in a separate container for safe disposal, with integrated electronic components for monitoring purposes.

The team impressed the jury with their sustainable approach to small-scale oil spill management, addressing a critical environmental challenge with a low-cost, practical solution. The project demonstrates strong market feasibility for deployment in water bodies across urban and rural areas, offering an affordable alternative to expensive industrial cleaning systems.

The Nitte Young Entrepreneurs Summit, organized by AIC-Nitte Incubation Centre, aims to nurture entrepreneurial talent and foster innovation among students. The event featured rigorous evaluation by a panel of seasoned entrepreneurs and business experts who assessed participants on innovation, market feasibility, and environmental impact.
