Raani Abbakka Tulu Adhyayana Kendra
On December 24th, 2025, the Marine Engineering Association (AIMES), in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a heritage visit for the 3rd-semester Marine Engineering students of Srinivas Institute of Technology to the “Raani Abbakka Tulu Adhyayana Kendra” at Bantwala, Mangaluru.
This initiative, as part of the institution's commitment to fostering social connection and responsibility, provided an opportunity for students to explore the cultural heritage of the Tuluvas. Dr. Thukaram Poojary, the center's Director, Historian, and Musicologist, captivated the students with an in-depth explanation of Rani Abbakka’s legacy. He also highlighted the center’s dedication to the collection and preservation of artefacts that reflect the rich history and cultural practices of the Tulu region.
The visit emphasized the significance of museums as bridges between the past and the future, with the center working tirelessly for over three decades to reconstruct and showcase the life and times of the Tulu people. Students gained valuable insights into the bravery of Rani Abbakka and the vibrant cultural heritage of Tulunadu, leaving them inspired to value and preserve the history of their homeland. Such experiences play a vital role in fostering cultural awareness and instilling a sense of pride and responsibility among future generations. The visit was led by Prof. Sathish KG, Assistant Professor of Marine Engineering, along with Prof. Shankar Pandi. The initiative was motivated and facilitated by Dr. Lokesh V, Head of the Marine Engineering Department, and Principal Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D, whose efforts ensured the success of this enriching experience.
