Inclusive Intelligence: From Capability to Opportunity
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and the, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru, organized an expert session titled “Inclusive Intelligence: From Capability to Opportunity” on 09th January 2026 at 11:00 AM in M202.
The session was conducted with the objective of creating awareness about inclusive growth, intelligence in modern engineering practices, and transforming individual capabilities into meaningful opportunities in the global industry. The program witnessed active participation from students and faculty members of the Marine and Mechanical Engineering departments.
The distinguished Resource Person for the session was Mr. Vivek V Kumar, Second Engineer (Merchant Navy), TORM Tankers, Denmark. With his vast experience in the maritime industry, he delivered an insightful talk highlighting the importance of adaptability, technical competence, global exposure, and inclusive thinking in today’s competitive engineering environment. He emphasized how engineers must upgrade their skills continuously and align their capabilities with emerging industry demands to convert knowledge into career opportunities.
The speaker also shared real-time experiences from the Merchant Navy, offering students practical exposure to international maritime operations, professional challenges, and the importance of teamwork and leadership onboard. His interaction motivated students to explore global career prospects and develop a responsible engineering mindset.
The session was successfully conducted under the guidance of Prof. Sandesh K. S., ASMA Coordinator; Dr. Raghavendra M. J., IIC-IA; Dr. Praveen Shenoy, IIC Coordinator; Dr. Shankar K S, Head of the Department; and Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D., Principal, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the management, resource person, faculty members, and students for their enthusiastic participation and support. The session proved to be highly informative and inspiring, encouraging students to transform their capabilities into impactful opportunities in the engineering domain.
