The Department of Marine Engineering and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at Srinivas Institute of Technology (SIT), Mangaluru, organized an insightful expert session on “Inclusive Intelligence: From Capability to Opportunity” on 09 January 2026. The session was delivered by Mr. Vivek V Kumar, Second Engineer (Merchant Navy), TORM Tankers, Denmark. The program was coordinated by Prof. Sunil Prakash R, while Dr. Lokesh V, Head of the Department of Marine Engineering, graced the event with his presence and motivated the participants throughout the session. The event was held under the guidance of Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D, Principal, Srinivas Institute of Technology.

Mr. Vivek V Kumar discussed the concept of inclusive intelligence and its growing importance in the modern engineering and maritime sectors. He highlighted how emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, are transforming traditional marine engineering practices through applications such as predictive maintenance, fuel optimization, condition monitoring, and enhanced safety and decision-making. He emphasized that AI complements core marine engineering fundamentals rather than replacing them, and encouraged students to view these technologies as tools that enhance engineering judgment, operational efficiency, and reliability.

The session also provided valuable perspectives on aligning technical competence with human values, adaptability, collaboration, and continuous learning to achieve sustainable professional growth. Drawing from his experience in the Merchant Navy, he shared practical insights on teamwork, leadership, and innovation in real-world maritime operations. The talk was interactive and thought-provoking, inspiring students to broaden their outlook and leverage inclusive intelligence as a pathway to personal and professional development.
