Responsible AI for Sustainable Innovation
On 4th February 2026, the Department of Information Science & Engineering (ISE) and the Department of Computer Science & Design (CSD), in association with the Institute’s Innovation Cell (IIC), Association of Information Science and Engineering and Association of Computer Science and Design Educatee (ACODE), successfully organized a technical talk titled “Responsible AI for Sustainable Innovation”. The program was conducted at the Department Seminar Hall at 11:00 AM. The event aimed to create awareness among students about ethical and emerging aspects of Artificial Intelligence and its role in sustainable technological advancement.
The first technical session was delivered by Prof. Shashank S, Assistant Professor, Marine Engineering, who spoke for one hour. His session primarily focused on AI bias and fairness, emphasizing whether AI systems are truly unbiased or influenced by data and human intervention. He elaborated on the role of AI in HR resume screening, discussing how improper AI models can lead to biased hiring decisions. The speaker also highlighted the importance of proper prompt engineering, explaining how well-structured prompts can significantly improve AI responses and decision-making accuracy. The session was highly informative and encouraged students to think critically about ethical AI usage in real-world applications.
The second technical session was handled by Prof. Rakesh Mallya P, Assistant Professor, Electronics and Communication Engineering, who also spoke for one hour. His talk covered advanced topics such as Deep Fake technology, its implications, and challenges in digital security. He explained face inspection techniques used in AI-based authentication systems and discussed the working principles of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), clearly explaining the roles of the generator and discriminator. The session provided students with valuable insights into both the creative and malicious aspects of AI technologies.
Following the technical sessions, a group discussion was conducted among the students to encourage interaction and critical thinking. Students actively shared their views on ethical AI, deep fake detection, and responsible usage of emerging technologies. The discussion session helped reinforce the concepts explained by the speakers and enhanced collaborative learning among participants.
The event was organized with the constant support and encouragement of Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D, Principal, Srinivas Institute of Technology. The program received strong institutional backing from Prof. Sudarshan K., Head of the Department, ISE & CSD, which contributed significantly to its success. The event was coordinated under the Institute’s Innovation Cell (IIC) by Dr. Praveen Shenoy, IIC Coordinator. The overall coordination of the event was carried out by Prof. Sahana B, CSD Staff Coordinator, under the guidance of Prof. Archana D, CSD Staff Advisor. Additional support and coordination were provided by Prof. Sowmya, ISE Staff Advisor, and Prof. Aparna N, ISE Staff Coordinator.
