Technical talk on IPR to IPO: Powering startups with protection and funding
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangalore, under the banner of the All Students Mechanical Association (ASMA), in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Yukthi Cell, and Kannada Sangha, organized an IPR Awareness Campaign through a Poster Presentation in Indian Languages on 29th August 2025. The event was conducted with the objective of creating awareness among students about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and its role in safeguarding innovations, creativity, and research outcomes.
The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from final-year and pre-final year Mechanical Engineering students, who showcased their understanding of IPR through informative posters. The posters covered diverse aspects of intellectual property such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, geographical indications, and industrial designs. A unique aspect of the campaign was the presentation of posters in multiple Indian languages including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Byari, which ensured inclusivity and regional representation. The posters were evaluated by faculty members and invited experts on the basis of creativity, clarity of content, technical understanding, and presentation skills. This approach not only simplified complex IPR concepts but also motivated students to think critically about the protection of their innovations.
The campaign proved to be highly impactful as it enabled students to develop a deeper understanding of intellectual property while also enhancing their ability to communicate scientific and legal knowledge across different languages. It fostered awareness about the importance of safeguarding innovations, particularly in the context of engineering applications and entrepreneurial ventures.
The event was organized by Dr. Raghavendra M. J. (IA–IIC) and was graced by Prof. Sandesh K. S. (Faculty Coordinator of ASMA) and Prof. Sudheendra H. N. (Coordinator of Kannada Sangha), along with other faculty members. The program was successfully conducted under the guidance of Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D., Principal, and Dr. Praveen Shenoy, IIC Coordinator, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangalore.
