Environmental pollution control day awareness rally
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangalore, under the banner of the All Students Mechanical Association (ASMA), in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized an awareness Rally on the occasion of Environmental Pollution Control Day on 2nd December 2025, with the objective of sensitizing students and the local community on the importance of protecting the environment and reducing pollution. The event was conducted under the guidance of faculty members and with active participation from students of various semesters.
The rally commenced at 3:30 PM from the college premises and proceeded through nearby public areas, covering major streets and marketplaces. All the students of Mechanical Engineering department enthusiastically took part, carrying placards and banners highlighting messages such as “Say No to Plastic,” “Save Nature, Save Future,” “Plant Trees, Breathe Clean Air,” and “Control Pollution, Conserve Life.” Eco-friendly slogans were raised to create awareness on air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, and proper waste management.
Dr. Shankar K S, HOD of Mechanical Engineering addressed the students before the rally began, emphasizing the significance of Environmental Pollution Control Day, which is observed to remember the Bhopal Gas Tragedy and to spread awareness about industrial safety, environmental safeguards, and pollution control measures.
The event received positive response from local residents, shopkeepers, and commuters. Many appreciated the initiative of Mechanical Engineering students in taking responsibility toward environmental protection. Students expressed that the program helped them understand the impact of pollution on health, biodiversity, and climate, and motivated them to contribute actively to environmental conservation.
IIC-IA Dr. Raghavendra M J, ASMA coordinator Prof. Sandesh. K. S, Faculties of Mechanical Engineering department were present during the event.
