Boot Camp on “Marine Engineering Skills: CAD-Based Component Design”
The Department of Marine Engineering at Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru, in association with the Institutions Innovation Council (IIC), IIIC Cell, and AIMES, organized a two-day boot camp titled “Marine Engineering Skills: CAD-Based Component Design” on 28th and 29th November 2025. The programme was exclusively conducted for Marine Engineering students to enhance their technical competence in modern design tools used in the marine industry.
Mr. Sathisha K G, Assistant Professor, Department of Marine Engineering, served as the resource person. He emphasized the significance of CAD modelling in modern marine industries, highlighting its role in achieving precision and supporting CFD analysis for evaluating fluid behaviour and system performance before prototyping.
On Day 1, he conducted a hands-on session in SolidWorks, covering sketching, 3D part modelling, assembly and animation. On Day 2, he introduced Autodesk Fusion 360, demonstrating advanced modelling, part design, assembly creation and animations. These sessions enabled students to visualise component behaviour, understand assembly interactions and enhance their practical digital design skills.
The boot camp was efficiently coordinated by Prof. Sunil Prakash R, Prof. Vivek V Kumar, and Dr. Praveen Shenoy, with the support of Dr. Lokesh V, Head of the Department, and Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D, Principal of Institute. AIMES association members also served as organisers, ensuring smooth conduct of all sessions. The programme saw enthusiastic student participation and effectively enhanced their skills in industry-relevant CAD tools.
