AI Bias and Fair Decision Making
The Department of MCA in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, Mangaluru, organized an online session on “AI Bias and Fair Decision Making” on 07th February 2026 at 11:00 AM.
The session was delivered by the Resource Person, Mr. DhanviShyam U B, Systems Engineer, Java Developer and SAP Developer at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The objective of the session was to create awareness among students about the ethical challenges in Artificial Intelligence, particularly the issue of bias in AI systems and the importance of fair decision-making in technology-driven environments.
During the session, the resource person explained how AI systems can sometimes develop biases due to biased data, algorithms, or design practices, and emphasized the need for responsible AI development. He discussed real-world examples to illustrate how biased AI systems can impact decision-making in areas such as recruitment, finance, healthcare, and social platforms. The session also highlighted strategies to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability while developing AI-based systems.
The interactive session helped students understand the importance of ethical AI practices and responsible innovation. Students actively participated in the discussion and clarified their doubts regarding AI bias, machine learning models, and the role of developers in creating fair and unbiased systems.
The event was successfully coordinated by Prof. Swapnil Pai (Department IIC Coordinator) along with Dr. Praveen Shenoy (IIC Coordinator) and the support of faculty members of the Department of MCA.
The session was well received by the students, who appreciated the opportunity to learn about ethical considerations and fairness in Artificial Intelligence, which is an important aspect of modern technological development.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks, appreciating the resource person for sharing his valuable insights and acknowledging the efforts of the organizing committee. The session successfully enhanced students’ awareness about responsible AI development and the importance of fairness in automated decision-making systems.
