The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a Workshop on Innovation and Design Thinking on 17th January 2026. The workshop was designed to foster practical innovation by providing hands-on experience with various development boards, including AVR development boards, Arduino, ESP8266, and the VSD Mini Squadron. The objective was to empower students to transform their creative ideas into functional prototypes.

The session featured a comprehensive walkthrough on setting up development environments and working platforms for these boards. The session was delivered by Mr. Colin David Karat, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE, who provided detailed guidance on board configuration, programming, and practical implementation.

Participants were introduced to various interfacing techniques, followed by an interactive discussion on potential mini-project ideas that could be developed using the development boards. A total of 42 interdisciplinary students were selected for the bootcamp, and teams were formed to collaborate on innovative hardware-based solutions.

Overall, 10 project ideas were generated, out of which 6 functional prototypes were successfully developed. Each team was guided to refine and enhance their unique project concepts centered around the use of these development boards.

The workshop was a successful initiative that enabled students to gain practical knowledge of interfacing techniques and hands-on experience in developing hardware-based prototypes, thereby strengthening their innovation and design thinking skills.
