Cracking GME and Challenges Faced
The Department of Marine Engineering at Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru, in collaboration with AIMES, Alumni Cell, and the Industry Institute Interaction Cell (IIIC), successfully organized an expert talk titled “Cracking GME and Challenges Faced” on 21st August 2025. The session aimed to provide valuable guidance to aspiring marine engineers on preparing for the Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) program and understanding the real-world challenges encountered in the maritime profession.
The session was led by Ms. Sneha, Engine Cadet, and Mr. Chandan 4th Engineer, who shared their personal experiences and insights on navigating the rigorous selection process for GME. They elaborated on the academic, technical, and psychological preparations required to succeed, while also highlighting the challenges faced during shipboard training and early career stages at sea. Their practical advice and motivational perspectives helped students gain clarity on career progression and industry expectations.
The event was coordinated by Prof. Nithin Joshuva, Event Coordinator, and Prof. Vivek V Kumar, AIMES Coordinator. The programme was encouraged by the presence of Dr. Lokesh V, Head of the Department of Marine Engineering, and Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D, Principal of the Institute. The program reinforced the department’s commitment to preparing students for successful careers in the maritime sector by bridging academic knowledge with real-world experiences shared by alumni and professionals.
