The Department of Marine Engineering at Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru, in collaboration with AIMES, Alumni Cell, and the Industry Institute Interaction Cell (IIIC), organized an expert talk titled “Ship Trading and Ship Brokerage: A Business Perspective” on 25th August 2025.

The session was delivered by Mr. Sushant, Assistant Business Development Manager at Dry Bulk Operations Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, and a proud alumnus of the department. He addressed the 5th and 7th semester students in separate sessions, focusing on the differences between sailing careers and offshore opportunities such as ship chartering and brokering. Drawing from his career, he highlighted the importance of ship trading and brokerage in connecting clients with vessels and stressed that understanding the commercial aspects of the industry is as vital as technical expertise. He further advised that pursuing an MBA would provide students with the managerial knowledge required to succeed in offshore and business-oriented roles, remarking that if one’s business is successful, “they can reach to the sky.”

The event was coordinated by Prof. Sathisha K. G., Event Organizer, Prof. Vivek V. Kumar, AIMES Coordinator and Prof. Nithin Joshuva, IIIC Coordinator. The programme was further encouraged by the presence of Dr. Lokesh V., Head of the Department of Marine Engineering, and Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D., Principal of the Institute. The session reinforced the department’s commitment to preparing students for successful careers in the maritime sector by bridging academic knowledge with real-world experiences shared by alumni and industry professionals.
