Industrial Visit 2025-26
The Department of Marine Engineering at Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru, in collaboration with the Industry–Institute Interaction Cell, organized a three-day industrial visit to Goa for the 5th Semester Marine Engineering students from 31st August to 2nd September 2025. The program was conducted under the guidance of Principal Dr. Shrinivasa Mayya D and Head of Department Dr. Lokesh V, and was led by Prof. Vivek Vijay Kumar and Prof. Nithin Joshuva.
The visit began at Mormugao Port Authority, where students learned about the port’s Green Energy Initiatives, including solar-powered facilities and hybrid vessels. They explored cargo terminals, observed Five Finger Jetty operations, and studied tug assistance in manoeuvring ships. Visits to Coast Guard and Navy facilities further exposed them to maritime security and defence logistics. In the afternoon, the team visited Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a premier defence shipbuilder. They observed the construction of frigates, patrol vessels, and fast-attack crafts, and learned about modular shipbuilding, robotic welding, and advanced fabrication systems.
On the second day, students toured Mandovi Drydocks, where they witnessed drydocking, hull cleaning, structural repairs, and retrofitting, emphasizing the importance of vessel safety and operational readiness. The final session was held at Chowgule Shipyards, known for hybrid-powered ships with diesel-electric propulsion. Here, students studied modular construction, design-to-delivery workflows, and the building of a series of hybrid sister ships.
The industrial visit offered students valuable exposure to port operations, shipbuilding, repair practices, and sustainable technologies, making it both educational and memorable.
