Industrial Visit
The Departments of Mechanical and Marine Engineering of Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru, in association with the Industry Institute Interaction Cell (IIIC) and the All-Students’ Mechanical Association and AIMES, organized an industrial visit to GWASF, located in the Baikampady Industrial Estate, on 10th September 2025. The visit was coordinated by Prof. Sathya Prakash Anekallu.
Before departing from the campus, the Heads of Departments — Dr. Shankar K.S. (HoD, Mechanical Engineering) and Dr. Lokesh V. (HoD, Marine Engineering) — addressed the first-year students, briefing them on the objectives of the visit and providing an overview of their respective departments. This orientation encouraged students to observe actively and connect academic knowledge with practical applications.
At the foundry, students witnessed the complete industrial casting process, including: Mould preparation, Metal melting and pouring, Cooling and solidification, Fettling (removal of excess material), Inspection and quality control of castings
These hands-on demonstrations gave students a deeper understanding of foundry operations and industrial practices.
Students were guided throughout the visit by faculty members:
• Prof. Mohammed Gowspeer, Dr. Raghavendra M.J., and Prof. Sudheendra H.N. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering
• Prof. Vivek V Kumar from the Department of Marine Engineering
These faculty members facilitated the visit and coordinated interactions with industry professionals, ensuring a smooth and educational experience for the students.
The industrial visit was highly informative and provided valuable exposure to industrial safety protocols, real-time engineering processes, and professional workplace environments. Such initiatives significantly enhance students’ understanding and prepare them for future challenges in the engineering industry.
