Visit To Nandini Dairy Kulshekhara
The students of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) in association with STEADY association, ECE undertook a field visit to Nandini Dairy, a unit of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) on 11/09/25. The objective was to understand the functioning of a large-scale cooperative dairy, its socio-economic importance, and to relate the observations with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Following observations were made during the visit. Milk Procurement & Farmer Involvement: Farmers supply milk to village-level societies where quality tests are conducted before collection. Processing and Packaging: Modern equipment is used for pasteurization and packaging, though plastic pouches remain a concern. Employment and Livelihoods: The dairy provides income opportunities for rural communities, especially for women farmers. Sustainability Efforts: Certain by-products are reused, but energy usage and water consumption remain high.
